Powerful, passion-inspiring Vesuvius is now the sad site of two huge landfills that seriously threaten the local farms, vineyards and tourist industry—not to mention causing great distress to the residents who complain of a terrible stench. Despite having long been designated a protected area, the site around the magnificent symbol of Naples is being covered with garbage.
